Cable size calculator

LT XLPE armoured cables, copper or aluminium. Checks current-carrying capacity after derating, voltage drop and short-circuit withstand, and suggests the breaker and earth conductor. The same engine as EDAS.

Size a whole panel in EDAS

System-generated result for guidance. Ratings: IS 7098-1 XLPE armoured cables, IS 3961 values as published by leading Indian cable makers; derating from the same tables; voltage drop with AC resistance at 90 °C and reactance; short-circuit withstand with k = 143 (Cu) / 94 (Al). Please have the design checked by a qualified engineer before purchase or installation.

How the size is chosen

The smallest cable that passes all three checks: its derated rating is at least the breaker rating, the voltage drop is within your limit, and it can carry the fault until the breaker clears it. The check that decided the size is shown.

Derating

Air: ambient temperature and grouping on trays or ladders. Ground and duct: ground temperature, depth, soil thermal resistivity and grouping. Each factor is shown so you can check it against the cable maker's catalogue.

Need the whole panel?

EDAS sizes every feeder of a panel together, works out the fault level from the transformer, draws the SLD and gives the panel BOM. Free during early access.
